Design

Overclad is an easily erected and adjusted aluminium grid system allowing the mounting of a range of cladding types on new or existing buildings.

Weathering performance is based on rainscreen principles with drained joints and ventilated cavity. Any water penetrating the rainscreen is drained back to the outside via Overclad's water management system.

Overclad provides structural support for the cladding sheet while allowing thermal and building movement to occur.

The Overclad system is designed to allow the architect to add shape and depth to the façade while maintaining an economical structure.

Overclad allows you to mount insulation and services in the cavity. This is particularly useful when over cladding existing buildings.

Cladding Materials

30mm granite with alumimium support frame

Overclad is designed to systemise the cladding process and to provide a reliable, repeatable method of cladding buildings to eliminate common mistakes.

Despite the extensive use of sheet cladding products in the market there is a lack of specifically designed systems to mount these products. This leads to performance problems, as a constant stream of new sub-contractors reinvent mounting systems for each job, resulting in:

Overclad supports a range of panel materials.

  • Cement board sheet up to 9mm thick
  • Resin panels up to 8mm thick
  • Composite panel
  • Stainless Steel sheet
  • Solid aluminium sheet
  • Overclad can also support a variety of profiled aluminium or steel claddings.
  • There is even an Overclad system for granite.

Mixed claddings types can be used within the one façade, all mounted off the same grid.

Cladding can be factory or site cut and finished.

Re-Imaging

Easily modify the look of the façade by replacing cladding panels and reusing the overclad grid.

Durability

The use of aluminium, stainless steel and galvanised components ensures in excess of 50 years' durability

Installation

Vertical section

Overclad provides a build-able system using an existing skill base.  The grid has controlled adjustment in all axes  Practical and speedy installation is a cornerstone of the system.  Overclad provides three methods of attaching cladding to the support grid

  1. Face fix
  2. Concealed fixing
  3. Cassette mounting

Overclad provides three grid mounting systems, which can be used singularly or in combination

  1. Formed brackets
  2. Rod mounting
  3. Aluminium clamp system

Maintenance

Open joint cladding

Cladding panels can be removed for access to services or for repair. Whole elevations can be removed and refitted for the purposes of extension or alteration.

Regular cleaning of the façade is the only ongoing maintenance required.

Rainscreen Info

The rainscreen forms part of a complete weathering solution for building facades.

The exterior cladding becomes part of the system and is not meant to be a perfect weatherproof skin.

The Overclad framing system supports the exterior rainscreen and controls water that penetrates the rainscreen, draining it to the outside.

A successful building facade must defeat the the following forces acting on water.

  • Gravity
  • Kinetic energy
  • Capillary action
  • Pressure differential

To defeat these forces.

The facade designer must create and identify the rainscreen, air seal, drainage system and correct venting to pressure equalise the cavity.

Cladding systems Ltd. provide standard details to help you resolve these issues in a systematic manner.
