Will overclad add cost to my cladding?

Overclads vertical aluminium runner (CS-2) is cheaper than the cost of a sealant joint and can replace your timber or similar support resulting in a net saving, with improved performance. Evaluating your facade and designing with overclad can result in significant savings.

Why do we need a ventilated cavity?

We have been putting up sheet cladding for years without a drained system. While in theory you can completely seal a building facade. in reality it does not work. It is unrealistic to expect a complete building to be perfectly sealed. The high cost of building failures is testament to this.

Can we just replace our timber supports with the overclad grid?

Yes, but the overclad system is much more than that. You need to create a complete system over the entire face of the building; in three dimensions. This involves creating and identifying the rainscreen, air seal, drainage system and correct venting to pressure equalise the cavity. Cladding systems provide standard details to help you resolve these issues in a systematic manner.

Do we need a specialist contractor to erect overclad?

A key concept of overclad is the ability of the main contractor to manage the erection of the overclad system, taking away the reliance on specialist sub contractors. It also allows a combination of cladding materials to be mounted on the common grid greatly reducing the problem of coordinating the activities and interfaces between the facade trades. With the added bonus of eliminating leaks at junctions between cladding materials mounted separately.
